La Cucina Italiana

If you’re an Italian food enthusiast like me, always on the lookout for your next go-to spot, La Cucina Italiana in Raleigh, NC, is a must-visit. Located conveniently off Glenwood Ave, this Italian restaurant combines the comfort of a home-cooked meal with the quality you expect from a well-established eatery. Over the course of three visits, my fiancé and I had the pleasure of trying several dishes, and it’s safe to say that La Cucina Italiana has earned a top spot on our list of date night destinations.

A Taste of Tradition

One of the first dishes we tried was the Vegetariana Stromboli. Made with onions, tomatoes, green peppers, mushrooms, black and green olives, and mozzarella cheese, all enveloped in their house sauce, this stromboli was the truth. The way the vegetables were cooked reminded me of a meal straight out of my mama’s kitchen. It had that comforting, home-cooked taste that’s hard to find in a restaurant. The stromboli’s crispy crust and gooey, cheesy interior created the perfect bite every time. It was so good, I knew my waistline was about to be in trouble.

Creamy Comfort in a Bowl

My ultimate test for any Italian restaurant is their Alfredo pasta. It has been my favorite pasta dish since I was 7 years old, I was eager to see how La Cucina Italiana’s Tortellini Alfredo would measure up. Let me tell you—it did not disappoint. The tortellini, stuffed with mozzarella and ricotta, was smothered in a rich and creamy Alfredo sauce that struck the perfect balance between indulgent and satisfying. It was comforting in the best way, making me nostalgic for my favorite childhood memories while enjoying a bowl of fettuccini. It’s the kind that makes you want to curl up in a blanket afterward and pretend calories don’t exist.

Classic Italian Flavors

We also sampled the Penne alla Vodka and Penne Pasta dishes, both of which delivered classic Italian flavors with a homemade touch. The Penne alla Vodka had a slightly tangy, creamy sauce that clung perfectly to the pasta, while the Penne Pasta, though simple, was elevated by the quality of the ingredients and careful preparation.

For one of our Friday movie nights, we decided to order a couple of pizzas from La Cucina Italiana, and let’s just say, they disappeared faster than the plot of the movie…lol. The Vegetariana Pizza was loaded with fresh vegetables, similar to the stromboli, and the Bianca Pizza—topped with fresh garlic, butter oil, spinach, tomatoes, black olives, and feta cheese—was a revelation. The combination of flavors was perfectly balanced, with the feta cheese adding just the right amount of tanginess to the buttery crust.

Perfect for Sharing

A meal at La Cucina Italiana wouldn’t be complete without an appetizer, and their Zucchini Sticks are the ideal starter. Lightly breaded and fried to perfection, these zucchini sticks were crispy on the outside without being super greasy, making them a delightful way to start our meal. And, of course, we couldn’t resist the bread. Soft and infused with garlic, it was the perfect accompaniment to our pasta dishes. Let’s just say, if carbs are your love language, you’ll feel right at home here.

The Atmosphere: Cozy Meets Gourmet

La Cucina Italiana excels not just in flavor but also in presentation, with dishes served on elegant black plates and a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese that adds a touch of gourmet flair. The restaurant strikes a lovely balance between cozy and refined, making it ideal for both casual dinners and special occasions. Plus, the friendly staff makes you feel right at home. I love it when I see places not forget to give great customer service. I will make sure to become a loyal customer to a spot that invest in their craft and a smile.
